The role of parents in promoting SOLE and behaviour expectations
At St Augustine’s college our parents are valued as partners in their child’s learning. This is integral when supporting learning about the college’s behaviour expectations. The college aims to keep you informed of your child’s success by celebrating excellence in areas of the SOLE framework through SOLE stars and other age appropriate recognition approaches.
Learning also comes from making mistakes. When students deviate from the college expectations, we refer to these as behaviours of concern. On most occasions, these behaviours of concern are dealt with by educators at the college who follow a predictable response (there is an age appropriate process for each community) to manage the deviation. If the behaviour is considered major or significant (see classification of BoCs at this link) we will notify you via email. This will include details of the behaviour of concern. Actions taken at the college to deal with behaviours of concern will be in line with the St Augustine’s Student Behaviour Policy. Further to this we would also like you to remind your child of the college’s expectations (F-4, 5-8, 9-12, Yard) This can be a conversation where you work through the incident details you received with your child. On some occasions, there will be follow up phone communication from the college, either from your child’s TA, the Community Wellbeing Leader or Deputy Principal- Wellbeing. This will be to assist you to understand more about the behaviour of concern so that you can support your child’s learning of the SOLE expectations and assist them to ‘be their best’ in relation to the pillars of Self, Others, Learning and the Environment. If you would like more information or you have concerns, you should contact your child’s TA teacher. They are the best placed person to respond to concerns relating to your child.
