At St Augustine’s students, staff and families have the opportunity to contribute to social justice action through awareness raising and fundraising initiatives. This work is a reflection of our Catholic faith in action and our understanding of Catholic Social Teaching principles. Our students are challenged to think globally and act locally. Our College supports Caritas Australia, Vinnies Victoria and local organisation, The Gift. Students with a particular interest in social justice initiatives may apply to be a Catholic Social Teaching Leader to lead this mission.
St Augustine’s College is proud to offer the Friends Igniting Reconciliation Education Program (FIRE Carriers). The unique program seeks to keep the Reconciliation flame alight in schools and provides ongoing learning about Aboriginal history and culture and spirituality. Our FIRE Carrier Covenant documents our goals for the 2022 – 2023 school years and focuses on the key areas of: Spirituality, Cultural Recognition and Awareness, Practical Reconciliation and Justice and Ecological Stewardship.
People of all faiths and of no faith are called to care for our common home. At St Augustine's College we have already taken some practical actions as we heed our responsibility as stewards of God's creation. We have registered as a Catholic Earthcare school and our Catholic Social Teaching Student Leaders have worked collaboratively to develop our Laudato Si Action Plan to guide the awareness raising actions and initiatives for the 2024 school year.
